Ship Borne

Applications can range from slide based storage systems, lockers and furniture, through rack mounted electronic components, and onto operational and weapon systems requiring linear movement. If required products manufactured from high grade stainless steel can be supplied offering highest levels of corrosion resistance and low magnetic signatures.

19 Inch Racks

The industry standard for mounting electronic systems is the 19" rack, but small variations in size of the electronic units themselves can greatly affect the gap available for positioning a telescopic slide to carry the component.  GSF's  large range of products means that you can expect to find a slide to meet your requirements.

The high cost and sensistivity of the electronics being mounted means that the slide must be precision engineered to move with a moderate resistance and have a shock-reducing end-stop configuration - a free moving slide with a solid end-stop may result in shock damage to sensitive equipment. 

Over-extension and lock-in / lock-out are features which will facilitate easier access for the purposes of maintenance and installation.

ATMs/TVMs

In ATM/TVM machines, operators will be accessing the machines on a daily basis, and it is generally an absolute requirement that the components of the machine are always positioned accurately in relation to each other to ensure that they interract correctly.  This requires precision engineered slides that remain reliable and and do not lose shape or become loose over time, despite high movement repetitions.

GSF has an extensive range of cost-effective slides designed to meet these criteria. This, coupled with GSF's expertise at specifying slides and designing fixings, enables us to make a significant contribution to the overall success of your end-product.

For the mounting of electronics in non-standard environments, many different factors may need to be taken into account.  For example, when mounted in vehicles, the electronic components and the slide systems holding them in place have to be able to withstand vibration, impact, and dynamic forces caused by the movement of the vehicle itself.  In some cases, particularly military applications, the system may need to be designed to withstand damp, dusty and corrosive conditions as well.

GSF's long experience of specifying slides and systems for a vast array of non-standard applications constitutes possibly the most valuable resource available to you. To help ensure that your product performance criteria are fully satisfied a range of additional options are available for consideration - selection of base materials for the slide beams, cages and ball bearings, specification of corrosion resistant finishes, end-stops, locking mechanisms, double extensions, slide reinforcing and many more.

Effectivly, GSF can provide the most standard of solutions through to a totally bespoke slide design.

 

Application Icon Special Vehicles - Specialist conversions of vehicles and trailers, for example mobile exhibition trailers, coaches and horse boxes with pull-out platforms, generators, workshops and other features.
Commercial Coachbuilding

For the adaptation of coaches, trucks and trailers our heavier duty slides are generally required. Load distribution, method of operation and locking are crucial points for consideration when selecting components and designing such applications.

It is recommended that locking systems external to the slides are installed with secure lock-in and lock-out features to eliminate any risk of injury to members of the public using the adapted unit.

When selecting a model of slide based on its load capacity allowance should be made for the likelihood that the load may not be evenly distributed and where people are involved the load will be mobile and varying.

Our product range includes heavy duty partial and full extension slides able to carry loads of 600 KG to 2,000 KG at extensions of 2,000 mm to 800 mm.

Response Vehicles

Roadside assistance and other categories of vehicle that need to stow and provide easy access to equipment can be enhanced through appropriate use of telescopic drawer slide and linear rail systems. 

The twin requirements of operator safety and operational effectiveness are of paramount importance.  GSF's ability to select and adapt from an unrivalled base product range, and its ability to assist with the design of bespoke and space-saving drawer systems enable us to make a significant contribution to your own product design.

Battery Rafts

Heavy duty specialist slide components for mounting under-train battery rafts.  The slides must, like the carriage as a whole, comply with crash testing criteria and, as high speed trains become ever more prevalent, there is an increasing requirement that the slides are able to hold heavy battery sets in position despite large dynamic loads.

Battery bays can also house a corrosive atmosphere over long periods, and therefore careful specification of corrosion resistant finishes are required.  The nitration option available onour relevant product range provides this resistance as well as considerably strengthening the surface structure of the slide itself. 

To facilitate ease of fitting and maintenance, GSF is able to design bespoke fitting brackets including, for example, positioning pins.

Despite improvements to train suspensions, running with metal wheels on metal tracks also makes vibration and shock relevant issues to consider in slide design.  Finally, as battery rafts constitute one of the heaviest loads typically mounted on slides, careful consideration is required to the consequent force required to push-in or pull-out the battery raft and the strength and shock-reduction characteristics of the end stops.  These are all critical factors that should direct the slide specification.

Seating
Train operators are increasingly offering adjustable seating in first class passenger compartments.  Simplicity and durability are key determinants of which linear rail and slide components will work successfully in ensuring that the seat operates reliably as intended and without a requirement for maintenance activity.
